Gordon soon to become tropical storm
Gordon strengthens, expected to hit Gulf Coast as tropical storm by Monday
Gordon has become more organized and is expected to become a tropical storm by Saturday night, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and possible flooding to the northern Gulf Coast. The latest forecast shows the storm strengthening into a tropical storm by Sunday and making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane by Monday evening.
Current situation
As of Saturday morning, Gordon is located about 185 miles east of Biloxi, Mississippi, and moving west-northwest at 14 mph. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the coast of Alabama from the Alabama-Mississippi border to the Okaloosa-Walton County line in Florida. A tropical storm watch is in effect for the coast of Mississippi from the Alabama-Mississippi border to the mouth of the Pearl River.
