Opus Dei: Finding God in Daily Life

A Letter from the Prelate, July 15, 2024

After his visit to Milan, the Prelate of Opus Dei invites us to reflect on the charism of the Work in light of the words of Saint Josemaría Escrivá: "Doing everything out of love, understanding all people, praying for the salvation of the world."

A Small but Powerful Organization

Opus Dei is a small but powerful organization within the Catholic Church, officially known as the Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei. It was founded in Spain in 1928 by Catholic priest Josémaría Escrivá.

The charism of Opus Dei is to help its members find God in their daily lives, through their work, family, and other ordinary activities. Members seek personal Christian perfection and strive to implement Christian ideals and values in all aspects of their lives.

Doing Everything Out of Love

Saint Josemaría Escrivá taught that the key to living a Christian life is to do everything out of love for God and for others.

This means doing our work well, caring for our families, and helping those in need, all with a spirit of love and service.

Understanding All People

Part of living a Christian life is understanding and respecting people from all walks of life.

Opus Dei members come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and they strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Praying for the Salvation of the World

The ultimate goal of Opus Dei is the salvation of the world.

Members pray for the conversion of sinners, the growth of the Church, and the peace and unity of the world.
