Congestion Pricing Nyc 59th Street Bridge

WEB Congestion Pricing: Transforming Manhattan from Gridlocked to Unlocked

Everything You Need to Know Before the Start Date

Prepare yourself for a significant change in Manhattan's traffic landscape as Congestion Pricing is set to roll out, promising to alleviate congestion and enhance the area's livability. Here's everything you need to know about this major initiative:

Exemptions and Map

Certain vehicles will be exempt from Congestion Pricing, including emergency vehicles, public transportation, and commercial trucks. The Congestion Relief Zone will cover the area from 60th Street to the Battery, as well as the Cross Bronx Expressway between the Henry Hudson Parkway and the Pelham Parkway. A detailed map is available online.

Toll Rates and Coverage

The Congestion Fee will vary depending on the time of day and the location of travel. The highest toll, $23, will apply to vehicles crossing the East River using the free Brooklyn Manhattan Williamsburg or Queensboro Bridges. Motorists using the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels will also incur tolls.

Start Date and Hours

Congestion Pricing will officially launch on December 21, 2023. The tolls will be in effect from 6 am to 6 pm on weekdays.

Impact on Traffic and Livability

Experts predict that Congestion Pricing will significantly reduce traffic in the Congestion Relief Zone, potentially cutting it by 20%. By reducing congestion, the initiative aims to improve air quality, shorten commute times, and make the area more pedestrian-friendly.

Exemptions for Bridges

If you regularly use the Brooklyn or Queensboro Bridges, pay attention to the exact times when tolls apply. The Brooklyn Bridge will not have tolls during rush hour, while the Queensboro Bridge will not have tolls from 6 am to 10 am.

Draft Report and Toll Recommendations

CBS New York's Marcia Kramer has obtained a draft report that suggests a toll of $15 from 5 am to 9 pm. However, the final toll rates are still subject to approval.
